Cross-Border Transactions Jump, Bank Mandiri Brings QR Payment Access to China

Jakarta, ThedailyID — Bank Mandiri is expanding its cross-border QR payment service to China, following a sharp rise in overseas transactions by Indonesian customers. The move supports Bank Indonesia’s initiative to strengthen international QRIS connectivity.

The expansion builds on strong early-year performance. Cross-border QR transactions surged 137% year-on-year, reaching Rp54 billion by March 2026. This growth reflects rising demand for seamless international payments as global mobility increases.

Through the feature, users of Livin’ by Mandiri can now pay at millions of merchants across China without exchanging cash. They also do not need to convert currency manually. Customers only need to scan QR codes at merchants using UnionPay or Alipay networks. This allows fast and simple transactions within an integrated system.

Director of Network and Retail Banking Jan Winston Tambunan said the expansion responds to shifting customer behavior toward global digital payments. He added that China remains one of the largest digital payment ecosystems in the world.

In addition, Bank Mandiri offers multicurrency accounts in Chinese yuan (CNY), which connect directly to Mandiri debit cards. This feature allows customers to withdraw cash at Visa-enabled ATMs in China without currency conversion. As a result, users gain more flexibility in managing finances abroad.

The China expansion complements existing cross-border QR services in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, and South Korea. It also strengthens Bank Mandiri’s position in building an integrated global payment network.

At the same time, Livin’ by Mandiri continues to show strong growth. The app has more than 39.1 million users, with total transactions reaching Rp1,200 trillion as of March 2026. QRIS adoption also remains high. Users reached 9.9 million, up 41% year-on-year, while transaction value jumped 76% to Rp64 trillion.

Looking ahead, Bank Mandiri plans to expand its cross-border QR network to more destinations. The bank aims to meet growing demand for practical and integrated digital payment solutions
