Jakarta, ThedailyID — Gadjah Mada University (UGM) has responded to former Indonesian President Joko Widodo’s testimony in the ongoing fake diploma allegations case. The university said it respects the legal proceedings and has fulfilled its role by providing the necessary evidence.
UGM spokesperson I Made Andi Arsana delivered the statement on Friday, November 6, 2026. His response followed Jokowi’s appearance as a witness at the East Jakarta District Court on Thursday.
“UGM respects the ongoing legal process and has carried out its role accordingly, including providing the necessary evidence,” Made Andi said.
He added that the university currently had no additional information to share with the public. However, UGM would communicate any relevant developments as soon as possible.
“So far, there is no additional information we need to convey. If there are developments that need to be shared, we will do so at the earliest opportunity,” he added.
Made Andi also expressed appreciation for the attention shown by the media and public toward the case involving the former president.
Previously, Jokowi appeared as a witness in the defamation trial involving allegations that his university diploma was fake. Roy Suryo is among the defendants in the case.
During the hearing, Jokowi outlined his educational background, from elementary school through university. He named SD Negeri 111 Surakarta, SMP Negeri 1 Surakarta, and SMA Negeri 6 Surakarta before continuing his studies at UGM’s Faculty of Forestry.
Jokowi also explained the timeline of his undergraduate education. He said he took his thesis examination on October 23, 1985, and graduated with an A grade. His graduation ceremony took place on November 19, 1985, at the Purna Budaya Building in Bulaksumur, Yogyakarta.
During the proceedings, Jokowi displayed his diplomas from elementary school, junior high school, senior high school, and university to visitors in the courtroom. He also confirmed that the photograph of a man with a thin mustache and glasses on his undergraduate diploma showed himself.
After the hearing, Jokowi expressed hope that the legal process would restore his reputation following the allegations.
