Jakarta, ThedailyID — Former Indonesian President Joko Widodo presented his academic diplomas during a court hearing on Thursday, November 5, 2026. The appearance took place at the East Jakarta District Court in the case involving allegations that his university diploma was fake.
Jokowi attended the hearing as a witness in the defamation and electronic information case involving Roy Suryo and several other defendants. During the proceedings, he presented his educational certificates, including his undergraduate diploma from Gadjah Mada University (UGM).
The former president also addressed questions about the photograph on his bachelor’s degree certificate. Prosecutors asked whether the picture showed Jokowi or a person named Dumatno Budi Utomo.
Jokowi firmly stated that the photograph was his. He also questioned why someone else’s picture would appear on his personal diploma.
“That is my photograph, Your Honor. Why would Dumatno Budi Utomo’s photograph be placed there?” Jokowi said during the hearing.
Furthermore, Jokowi explained the details of his UGM bachelor’s degree certificate. He said the university issued it on November 5, 1985, under registration number 11 1120.
He also identified the officials who signed the document. They were then-UGM Rector Professor Dr. dr. Te Jacob and Dean of the Faculty of Forestry Professor Dr. Soenardi Prawirohatmodjo.
Jokowi added that he took his thesis examination on October 23, 1985. He then attended the university’s graduation ceremony on November 19, 1985, alongside graduates from all faculties. The ceremony took place at the Purna Budaya Building in Bulaksumur, Yogyakarta.
Meanwhile, prosecutors have charged Roy Suryo with defamation and alleged violations of Indonesia’s Electronic Information and Transactions Law (ITE Law).
The indictment includes Article 433 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 441 paragraph (1) of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code. Prosecutors also applied several provisions under the ITE Law, as amended by Law No. 1 of 2026 on Criminal Adjustments.
