Jakarta, ThedailyID — Indonesia’s Ministry of Forestry has installed warning signs and banned unauthorized activities in several former forest and land fire areas in Central Kalimantan.
According to CNN Indonesia, officials placed the signs at several forest concession areas that had previously received sanctions from the ministry.
The sanctions included permit suspensions and mandatory measures to restore damaged forest ecosystems.
Authorities consider post-wildfire areas vulnerable to new threats. Illegal logging remains one of the main concerns in these locations.
The ministry said the warning signs would help clarify the legal status of the protected areas. The move also aims to prevent unauthorized activities during the ecosystem recovery process.
Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni said limited resources should not weaken efforts to protect Indonesia’s forests.
“Those limitations should not make us stop doing our best for our forests,” Raja Juli said on Sunday, November 1.
“Instead, we must work smarter and more tactically. We should be able to identify areas that are vulnerable to illegal logging.”
According to CNN Indonesia, Raja Juli also said President Prabowo Subianto had approved plans to add more forest ranger personnel.
He said the recruitment effort would involve younger generations. The government plans to add up to 70,000 new personnel.
“President Prabowo Subianto has made the decision that we will welcome young people and a new generation,” he said. “The number will not be small. It could reach 70,000.”
The Ministry of Forestry hopes the additional warning signs will strengthen protection in areas affected by forest and land fires.
The measure also supports ecosystem restoration efforts. Authorities hope it can reduce the risk of new disturbances and illegal activities in vulnerable forest areas.
