Jakarta, ThedailyID — US President Donald Trump has accused Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of identity fraud and called for her resignation. However, no court has established that Omar used a false identity.
Trump made the allegations on Truth Social on Thursday, October 22, 2026. He claimed Omar used a false name when she took office and urged her to leave Congress.
“Because she used a fake name when sworn in, I assume she MUST resign from Congress immediately,” Trump wrote, according to Anadolu Agency.
Trump claimed Omar’s real name was Ilhan Nur Said Elmi. He also pointed to the surname Elmi, which appears in the name of her former husband, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi.
Trump further accused Omar of having “openly admitted to fraud.” He also called on US House Speaker Mike Johnson to declare her congressional seat vacant.
However, Omar has not admitted to the alleged wrongdoing. Her spokesperson rejected Trump’s claim and insisted that she uses her real name.
“This is absolutely not true. Ilhan Omar is her real name,” the spokesperson told Fox News.
The dispute follows a US Justice Department court filing submitted on Wednesday, October 21, concerning a federal search of Omar’s home in Washington, DC. The document identified her as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a.k.a. Ilhan Abdullahi Omar,” but prosecutors did not explain the alternative names or establish that she committed identity fraud.
Federal agents searched Omar’s home on October 12 as part of an investigation into alleged false statements in immigration and citizenship records. Omar, who became a US citizen in 2000, has denied wrongdoing.
She has also accused the Trump administration of using the investigation to intimidate her ahead of the US midterm elections scheduled for November 3, 2026.
