Jakarta, ThedailyID — Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has raised the possibility of extending Transjabodetabek services from Blok M in South Jakarta to Bandung, the capital of West Java. The proposal could expand connections beyond the existing routes serving Depok, Bogor, and Bekasi.
Pramono highlighted Blok M as a successful example of how public transport can support urban destinations. The area has become increasingly popular, especially among young people, thanks to its food scene, music events, and local businesses.
“People often call it ‘Blok M Country’ because it is so popular. There is even a joke that public transport now connects Blok M to everywhere, from Blok M to Bogor and Bekasi, and perhaps one day to Bandung,” Pramono said at the 5th World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE 2026) in Jakarta on Friday, October 23, 2026.
He added that these connections operate through Transjabodetabek, although the Bandung route remains a possibility rather than a confirmed service.
Blok M also connects directly to the MRT and Transjakarta networks, making it easier for residents to reach the area. According to Pramono, the combination of public transport and creative activities has helped strengthen the district’s appeal.
“This is clear evidence of how public transportation and creative activities can reinforce each other,” he said.
Meanwhile, Jakarta’s public transport ridership increased by 10.8% through September 2026. Pramono attributed the growth partly to improvements in service quality, particularly on Transjabodetabek routes.
The Blok M-Bogor route, for example, was initially expected to carry 2,000 passengers. It now averages nearly 10,000 passengers, according to Pramono.
He hopes public confidence in Jakarta’s government-managed transport services will continue to grow, supporting further increases in public transport use.
