Jakarta, ThedailyID — ShopeePay ranked first in e-wallet usage frequency, consumer recommendations and QRIS payments in Indonesia, according to MarkPlus’ E-Wallet Research 2026: Usage Behavior & QRIS Landscape. The study surveyed 400 respondents across Indonesian cities and highlights how consumers increasingly value convenience, flexibility and savings when choosing digital payment platforms.
The research found that 90.3% of respondents had used e-wallets for more than two years. This suggests that digital wallets have become familiar tools for everyday transactions, with consumers increasingly evaluating platforms based on the benefits they offer.
ShopeePay was the most frequently used e-wallet, cited by 40% of respondents. GoPay followed at 34.3%, DANA at 15.3% and OVO at 1.8%.
ShopeePay also led consumer recommendations, with 38% of respondents saying they would recommend it to family and friends. GoPay ranked second at 35.5%, followed by DANA at 13.8%, LinkAja at 2.5% and OVO at 1.8%.
Yosanova Savitry, Chief Marketing Officer of MarkPlus Corp (MCorp), said consumer expectations continue to evolve as digital wallets become part of daily life.
“Convenience and speed remain important, but consumers are also looking for greater flexibility and tangible financial benefits that meet their daily needs,” Yosanova said.
She added that providers need to deliver relevant, accessible and rewarding experiences to remain competitive and build long-term consumer relationships.
QRIS leads everyday e-wallet transactions
QRIS was the most frequently used e-wallet feature, cited by 85.3% of respondents. Transfers to bank accounts and other e-wallets followed at 77.3%, while 70.8% used e-wallets for online shopping and 69% for digital product purchases.
Among frequent QRIS users, ease and speed were the main considerations when selecting an e-wallet, cited by 80.8%. Broad merchant acceptance ranked second at 54.4%, followed by attractive promotions and cashback at 51.3%.
ShopeePay also led QRIS top-of-mind awareness at 37.7%, ahead of GoPay at 35.5% and DANA at 17.8%. In terms of usage, ShopeePay ranked first at 40.5% among frequent QRIS users, followed by GoPay at 32.6% and DANA at 16.1%.
Yosanova said 30% of frequent QRIS users considered multiple funding options when choosing an e-wallet. She said this creates an opportunity for providers to offer greater payment flexibility without sacrificing convenience.
ShopeePay leads e-wallet money transfers
Money transfers were another widely used feature, with 77.3% of respondents using e-wallets to send funds to bank accounts or other digital wallets.
ShopeePay ranked first for money transfer frequency at 41.8%. GoPay followed at 33.7%, while DANA recorded 17.7%.
The findings highlight the role of e-wallets beyond merchant payments. Fast transactions and affordable transfer fees can help consumers manage their everyday finances more conveniently.
Digital product purchases drive e-wallet use
The study found that 69% of respondents used e-wallets to purchase digital products, including mobile credit, data packages and electricity tokens.
Competitive pricing was an important consideration, cited by 65.6% of respondents. ShopeePay was the most frequently used e-wallet for digital product purchases at 39.5%.
These findings underline the importance of affordable pricing for products consumers buy regularly. Combined with a straightforward purchasing process, competitive prices can help users save on everyday digital essentials.
Promotions remain a key consideration
Promotions continue to influence e-wallet preferences as providers compete to attract and retain users. Cashback, free transfers and discounts can encourage usage, particularly when they offer tangible savings on routine transactions.
The MarkPlus study found that 56.8% of respondents perceived ShopeePay as the e-wallet offering the most promotions. GoPay followed at 33.5%, DANA at 4.8% and OVO at 2%.
Yosanova said promotions are most valuable when they support consumers’ everyday needs rather than simply provide one-time incentives. She emphasized the importance of consistent savings alongside convenient and reliable services to encourage repeat usage and lasting consumer preference.
Digital credit and PayLater usage
The research also examined digital credit adoption. Approximately 86.5% of respondents reported using a digital credit feature, and 90.8% of this group had used PayLater.
Among PayLater users, SPayLater was the most-used buy now, pay later (BNPL) service, cited by 77.4%.
Overall, the findings provide a snapshot of how consumers use digital financial services and what influences their e-wallet choices. Yosanova concluded that providers need to understand different transaction needs and deliver convenient, reliable and affordable experiences to build trust and encourage long-term engagement.
