Jakarta, ThedailyID — PT Sun Life Financial Indonesia has officially launched PT Sun Life Financial Syariah Indonesia, or Sunlife Syariah, as an independent entity.
The launch follows the spin-off of Sun Life Indonesia’s Sharia business unit. The move allows Sunlife Syariah to focus on developing Sharia-based protection for Indonesian families.
Sunlife Syariah introduced its new entity at HijrahFest LinkUp 2026 in Jakarta on November 1, 2026. The company carries the message, “Your Efforts, We Protect with Trust.”
The company aims to expand access to Sharia insurance while improving financial literacy and inclusion across Indonesia.
A Stronger Focus on Sharia Protection
Sunlife Syariah operates with its own Board of Directors, Board of Commissioners, and Sharia Supervisory Board. The Financial Services Authority, or OJK, oversees the company.
The company reported a Risk-Based Capital ratio of 301 percent. This figure stands well above the minimum requirement of 120 percent.
Sunlife Syariah also draws on Sunlife’s more than 160 years of global experience. The brand has operated in Indonesia for more than 30 years.
The company works with three Sharia banking partners. They include Bank Muamalat Indonesia, CIMB Niaga Syariah, and Bank Syariah Nasional.
These partnerships, along with its agency network, will help Sunlife Syariah reach more Indonesian families.
Albertus Wiroyo, President Director of Sun Life Indonesia, said the spin-off would strengthen the company’s focus on the Sharia insurance market.
“Spin-off Sunlife Syariah allows us to focus more on developing insurance protection solutions that meet the needs of the community,” Albertus said.
“We want to improve public understanding of Sharia protection and expand access, so more families can gain meaningful protection.”
Expanding Access to Sharia Insurance
Indonesia’s Sharia insurance market continues to offer significant growth opportunities.
Data from the Financial Services Authority, published by the Indonesian Sharia Insurance Association, showed that industry contributions reached Rp11.72 trillion in the first half of 2026.
Meanwhile, total industry assets rose 7.09 percent year-on-year to Rp50.90 trillion as of June 2026.
However, the 2026 National Survey on Financial Literacy and Inclusion showed that Sharia financial literacy stood at 43.07 percent. Sharia financial inclusion reached only 13.24 percent.
The figures highlight the need to improve public understanding and access to Sharia financial services.
Sunlife Syariah offers protection for different stages of life. Its solutions cover life and health protection, education, Hajj preparation, inheritance planning, and retirement funds.
The company also targets families from the sandwich generation. This group often balances the financial needs of themselves, their children, and their parents.
Sunlife Syariah currently has 487 certified Sharia marketers and 14 independent Sharia marketing offices.
Building Protection Through Trust
Sunlife Syariah places Amanah, or trust, at the center of its operations.
The company uses the BAIT values as its operational foundation. BAIT stands for Berkah, Amanah, Ikhtiar, and Tawakal.
The Arabic word bait means home. Sunlife Syariah uses these values to guide its services and support for participants.
Agung Prambudi, President Director of Sunlife Syariah, said trust must shape how the company provides protection.
“For us, Amanah is not just a message. It is how we deliver protection,” Agung said.
“We want participants to receive solutions that meet their needs, understand their protection, and receive support when they need it.”
The company also applies the principle of ta’awun, or mutual assistance, in its Sharia insurance operations.
Participants contribute part of their funds to a tabarru’ fund under Sharia agreements and regulations. The fund helps participants facing covered risks.
When an underwriting surplus occurs, the company may distribute part of the benefits according to the agreement and applicable regulations.
“Through the principle of ta’awun, every participant becomes part of a spirit of mutual care,” Agung said.
A New Identity for Sunlife
The launch of Sunlife Syariah also marks the introduction of Sunlife’s new global brand identity in Indonesia.
The updated identity features a modern sun globe logo and combines the brand name into one word: Sunlife.
The company continues to carry its global purpose, “Making Life Brighter.”
Sunlife Syariah became the first Sunlife entity in Asia to adopt the new identity.
Despite the new look, the company said its commitment to customers remains unchanged. Existing policies, benefits, and customer rights will continue to apply.
“Sunlife’s new identity reflects our commitment to keep growing and help more Indonesian families prepare for the future with confidence,” Albertus said.
Agung added that Sunlife Syariah would continue to build trust through transparent and reliable protection.
“We are committed to providing protection that is transparent, easy to understand, and dependable,” he said.
