Stalked BTS' Jungkook 22 Times, Brazilian Woman Gets Suspended Jail Term

Jakarta, ThedailyID — A South Korean court has handed a Brazilian woman a one-year prison sentence, suspended for two years, after convicting her of repeatedly stalking BTS member Jungkook.

According to The Korea Times, Judge Park Ji-won of the Seoul Western District Court delivered the ruling on May 8. The court found her guilty of violating South Korea’s anti-stalking law and trespassing.

Prosecutors said the woman visited Jungkook’s home and nearby areas in Seoul’s Yongsan District 22 times. The incidents took place between Dec. 7 and Dec. 28 last year.

During that period, she repeatedly rang the doorbell and waited outside the residence. She also left personal items at the property.

Investigators said she entered the property on Dec. 13. She allegedly walked through a side gate after a food delivery courier left it open.

Police arrested the woman but later released her while the investigation continued. Officers then issued an emergency protection order banning her from approaching Jungkook or coming within 100 meters of his home.

However, prosecutors said she ignored the order. They alleged she returned on Jan. 4 and left photographs and printed materials near the residence.

“The defendant continued stalking the victim even after receiving a warning and being released following the police investigation,” the court said. “She also failed to comply with the emergency protection order.”

The court said Jungkook had requested a strict punishment. However, the judge also considered several mitigating factors.

According to the ruling, the woman appeared to act to express her feelings rather than harm the singer. The court also noted that she never entered the living quarters of the house.

Judges further considered that she had already spent about three months in detention. They also said she was unlikely to reoffend because authorities are expected to deport her once the ruling becomes final.

The case is not the first stalking incident involving Jungkook.

In June last year, police arrested a Chinese woman in her 30s. Prosecutors said she repeatedly entered the singer’s door code after he completed his mandatory military service.

Prosecutors later suspended the indictment in that case.
