Jakarta, ThedailyID — The Korea Football Association (KFA) has suspended Shin Tae-yong from coaching in South Korea for 10 years following disciplinary proceedings by its Fair Play Committee.
The decision came after the committee met earlier this month. The KFA imposed three sanctions on the former Indonesia national team coach.
The first bans Shin from coaching in South Korea for 10 years. The second prohibits him from holding any role in domestic football competitions. The third permanently bars him from working with clubs in the country.
The sanctions apply only in South Korea. They do not affect his coaching career abroad.
Shin currently manages Persija Jakarta in Indonesia. Reports from South Korean media said the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) has received information about the sanctions. However, the decision will not affect his position at the club.
Shin said he believes the punishment is unfair. He claimed he has evidence to support his position but chose not to reveal it.
“There are many aspects that I believe are unfair,” Shin said, according to South Korean media. “I want to reveal the truth, but my former players could be affected if I speak, and the domestic football environment is already difficult.”
The dispute dates back to Shin’s time at Ulsan Hyundai. He faced allegations of physical abuse involving several players while managing the club.
He also faced accusations of playing golf during the competition. Ulsan Hyundai later dismissed him from his coaching role.
The KFA’s disciplinary process continued after his dismissal, resulting in the latest sanctions.
