Jakarta, ThedailyID — Thai police arrested a 27-year-old man after he rode a jet ski through a flooded road in Bangkok.
Bangkok Post reported that Sorn Keadsiri rode his jet ski along Phetchaburi Road. The major Bangkok road was underwater after heavy flooding.
A video circulating on social media showed Sorn maneuvering the jet ski through the flooded street. The waves pushed water toward homes and buildings along the road.
Local residents complained about the stunt because people still used the flooded road. The incident also caused disruption in the area.
Makkasan Police later arrested Sorn. Officers accused him of disturbing public order and disrupting traffic.
Police also arrested the person who recorded the incident. Officers accused him of assisting in the alleged offense.
Sorn reportedly told police that he did not understand Thai culture because he attended school overseas. He also said he wanted to entertain people during the difficult conditions caused by the flooding.
Sorn later faced trial over the incident. The North Bangkok Municipal Court sentenced him to one month in prison and fined him 10,000 baht, or around Rp5.3 million.
Because Sorn pleaded guilty, the court reduced his sentence to 15 days in prison. The court also reduced the fine to 5,000 baht, or around Rp2.6 million.
The court then suspended his prison sentence for one year. Sorn was also placed on probation for 12 months.
