Jakarta, ThedailyID — Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claims it attacked a US aircraft carrier and destroyer with ballistic missiles on Sunday (06/09/2026).
In an official statement, the IRGC said both US warships sustained damage and “left the battle area” near the Strait of Hormuz, according to Anadolu Agency.
The Iranian military also claimed that the US Central Command (CENTCOM) acknowledged that two US Navy warships had come under attack. The IRGC described the alleged acknowledgment as confirmation that its operation had succeeded.
Iran also warned Washington that continued military action would trigger a “more severe” response from Iranian armed forces.
In a separate statement issued Sunday morning, the IRGC said its forces had attacked a remotely operated US military vessel that was attempting to enter the Strait of Hormuz. However, Iran did not provide further details about the operation or its impact.
The latest claims followed attacks involving several vessels in the region. A day earlier, the IRGC said it had targeted three oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and three US-linked vessels elsewhere.
Iran described those attacks as retaliation for Washington’s earlier strikes on Iranian tankers.
The United States and Iran have been engaged in fighting since late February. The two countries had previously reached a ceasefire and signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at ending the conflict.
However, Iran has accused Washington of violating the agreement by continuing military attacks. Tehran subsequently resumed military action, keeping tensions between the two countries high.
The latest developments further increase tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important waterway for regional and international shipping.
