Jakarta, ThedailyID — Beef prices across Indonesia have climbed above the government’s official benchmark, with some regions recording prices as high as Rp200,000 (US$11.2) per kilogram, according to the country’s statistics agency.
Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reported that the national average beef price reached Rp143,737 per kilogram during the first week of August 2026, exceeding the government’s consumer benchmark price (HAP) of around Rp140,000 per kilogram.
BPS chief Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said the trend deserves attention because prices have risen not only in specific regions but also at the national level.
“The national average beef price in the first week of August 2026 has moved well above the benchmark price, reaching Rp143,737 per kilogram,” she said during a regional inflation coordination meeting on Monday.
According to BPS, the average beef price increased 0.54% from July. Meanwhile, the Beef Price Development Index (IPH) rose in 56 regencies and cities, representing 15.56% of the areas monitored by the agency.
One of the largest increases occurred in Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan, where beef sold for an average of Rp165,000 per kilogram. Prices there rose 7.51% from the previous month and stood 17.86% above the government’s benchmark.
In neighboring Melawi Regency, beef prices reached Rp180,000 per kilogram, or 28.57% above the benchmark, while the local price index increased 4.68% month-on-month.
Widyasanti also highlighted several regions where beef prices have reached Rp200,000 per kilogram, including Puncak Jaya, Pegunungan Bintang, and Nabire in eastern Indonesia.
Other regions experiencing price increases include Central Lampung, where beef averaged Rp140,000 per kilogram, Pacitan at Rp149,400, and South Bengkulu at Rp150,000 per kilogram.
Some areas, however, continued to record prices below the benchmark despite monthly increases. These include Mojokerto, Simalungun, and Pasuruan, where beef prices ranged between Rp128,000 and Rp130,000 per kilogram.
