Jakarta, ThedailyID — Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max with major upgrades to the camera, performance and battery.
The new models feature a variable-aperture camera, the A20 Pro chip and a new vapor chamber cooling system.
“Introducing iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. We are making major advances in key areas: intelligence, performance, battery and cameras,” Apple CEO John Ternus said on Thursday, September 10, 2026.
Both models come in four colors: black, silver, glacier blue and burgundy.
48MP Camera With Variable Aperture
The main 48MP Fusion camera gets one of the biggest upgrades. Apple has added variable aperture to an iPhone for the first time.
The system uses six laser-cut blades. Users can manually choose from four aperture settings through the Camera app.
The feature gives users more control over depth of field and exposure. It can also improve photography in low-light conditions.
Apple has also introduced Pro Controls. Users can adjust the aperture, shutter speed and white balance.
The Camera app can also display a live histogram. For video, Cinematic effects can now be applied after recording at up to 60 frames per second.
Time-Lapse supports 4K HDR video in Dolby Vision. Audio Mix also gets a new algorithm and improved music isolation.
Apple Reference Image
Apple is also introducing a feature called Apple Reference Image.
The feature uses the main camera sensor to create a digital signature for every captured pixel.
Apple then processes the signed sensor data through Private Cloud Compute. This creates a reference image that cannot be altered.
Users can compare the reference image with the original photo. This can help determine whether an image has been edited.
Apple also plans to support metadata and the upcoming SynthID standard. These tools can help users identify images created or edited with AI.
Apple says the feature could benefit photojournalists, photographers and everyday users.
A20 Pro Uses 2nm Technology
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max use Apple’s new A20 Pro chip, built with a 2-nanometer process.
The chip features a six-core CPU, seven-core GPU and dual 16-core Neural Engines.
Apple claims the GPU is up to 40% faster than the A19 Pro. Its AI computing performance is also twice as fast.
Memory bandwidth has increased by 50% compared with the previous generation.
Both phones also feature Apple’s N1 chip. It supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread.
The new C2 modem offers higher upload speeds than the C1X. Apple also claims it uses 15% less power.
New Cooling System
Apple has paired the A20 Pro with a new vapor chamber cooling system.
The cooling system has three times the surface area of the system used in the iPhone 17 Pro.
Apple claims this allows sustained performance to improve by up to 40%.
The Dynamic Island has also been redesigned. It is now smaller and can display up to three Live Activities at the same time.
Battery Life
Apple claims the iPhone 18 Pro can provide up to 34 hours of video playback.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max can reach up to 43 hours.
The Pro can charge to 50% in around 15 minutes using a cable. Wireless charging takes around 30 minutes.
Apple says the Pro Max can provide around seven hours of video playback after just five minutes of charging.
Both models run iOS 27, which includes Liquid Glass interface improvements and new child safety features.
iPhone 18 Pro Price
The iPhone 18 Pro comes in four storage options:
- 256GB: US$1,199 (Rp20.992 million)
- 512GB: US$1,399 (Rp24.494 million)
- 1TB: US$1,799 (Rp31.497 million)
- 2TB: US$2,399 (Rp42.002 million)
iPhone 18 Pro Max Price
The iPhone 18 Pro Max is also available in four storage options:
- 256GB: US$1,299 (Rp22.743 million)
- 512GB: US$1,499 (Rp26.244 million)
- 1TB: US$1,899 (Rp33.248 million)
- 2TB: US$2,499 (Rp43.752 million)
Apple has confirmed that the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will come to Indonesia.
However, Apple has not yet announced their official Indonesian prices or sales date.
