Jakarta, ThedailyID — Political pressure surrounding Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s educational credentials is gaining momentum, with the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) expressing its commitment to follow up on a Constitutional Court (MK) ruling. The development comes after lawyer Denny Indrayana and several petitioners met with PKS lawmakers on Thursday, October 29, 2026.
PKS Legislative Body chairman Zainudin Paru said the issue goes beyond political victories or defeats, arguing that it concerns national dignity and public morality. He also called on the seven parliamentary factions to respond to the matter.
Zainudin said PKS wanted to ensure President Prabowo Subianto could carry out his administration without being burdened by the controversy.
During the meeting, Indrayana urged PKS to take the lead in pursuing political steps that could potentially result in Gibran’s impeachment. He said he had also sent requests for hearings to other parliamentary factions but had yet to receive responses.
Indrayana separately confirmed that he had communicated with senior figures from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP). However, the party is still reviewing the Constitutional Court ruling internally and has not held an official public meeting with the petitioners.
Other parliamentary factions have expressed differing positions. The National Awakening Party (PKB) previously proposed establishing a special committee, while lawmakers from the Democratic Party said they had received no internal instructions to pursue the matter. Golkar and NasDem are also reviewing the ruling.
The controversy has also extended to former president Joko Widodo’s educational credentials. A separate lawsuit concerning his diploma is being handled by the Central Jakarta District Court, with an interim ruling scheduled for November 11, 2026.
Jokowi previously described the controversy surrounding his and Gibran’s credentials as a political operation intended to damage their reputations.
