Jakarta, ThedailyID — British actor Patrick Stewart, best known for portraying Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men franchise and Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek, has died at the age of 86. He passed away in Los Angeles on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, following a brief battle with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia.
His death was announced by longtime spokesperson Kelly Bush Novak, whose statement confirmed that Stewart had spent his final days surrounded by family and friends. The diagnoses had not previously been made public, according to the Associated Press on October 29, 2026.
The news prompted tributes from colleagues and fellow actors, including Hugh Jackman, who shared the screen with Stewart in several X-Men films. Jackman remembered him as one of the greatest figures in film and theatre, as well as a close friend who had taught him many things throughout their time working together.
“I will miss you, Patrick Stewart, all of my days,” Jackman wrote in a tribute shared on social media.
Despite his international recognition through major film franchises, Stewart devoted much of his professional career to theatre. He joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1969 and performed numerous classical roles, including Claudius and Macbeth.
His stage career also included performances in London’s West End and on Broadway alongside longtime friend Ian McKellen. His portrayal of Macbeth in Rupert Goold’s 2007–2008 production earned him his first and only Tony Award nomination.
Across more than six decades, Stewart built a career spanning theatre, television and film, leaving a lasting legacy in both classical acting and popular entertainment.
