Jakarta, ThedailyID — A glass bottle was thrown toward Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s motorcade at Mahane Yehuda Market in Jerusalem on Thursday, October 22, 2026. The incident occurred as Netanyahu visited the market ahead of his 77th birthday.
Videos of the incident circulated on social media. The footage shows the motorcade passing through a cleared street as crowds gathered along both sides to watch and record the convoy.
As the vehicles passed, a glass bottle flew from the crowd toward the motorcade. An account sharing the video in Hebrew reported that the incident caused no damage.
Security personnel and police then moved through the crowd to search for the person who threw the bottle.
Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, received a birthday celebration at the market, where music played as they arrived. Some attendees waved Likud Party flags and other flags featuring a lion and a sun.
Footage also showed Netanyahu waving flowers toward the crowd.
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, a far-right politician, strongly condemned the incident.
“Incitement directed at the prime minister, and actions taken against him, have consequences,” Ben Gvir said, according to The Jerusalem Post.
He also urged left-wing groups to act responsibly, adding, “Words can kill.”
The incident comes days before Israel’s general election on October 27, 2026. Polls cited in the report suggest Netanyahu and his Likud Party face a difficult electoral contest.
Other surveys have indicated declining public trust and support for Netanyahu amid the war in Gaza, conflicts involving Iran and Hezbollah, and economic difficulties.
