Jakarta, ThedailyID — West Java Police have arrested Taufik Hidayat, the suspect accused of holding his girlfriend captive and subjecting her to years of brutal abuse in Bandung Regency. Authorities captured him on Tuesday after launching a province-wide manhunt.
West Java Police spokesperson Hendra Rochmawan confirmed the arrest. Officers located Taufik in the Majalaya area of Bandung Regency, although police have not disclosed the exact location. Investigators plan to reveal more details during a press conference.
Before the arrest, West Java Police Chief Rudi Setiawan formed a special task force involving narcotics, cybercrime, special crimes, and general crime investigators. Police also issued a wanted notice and appealed to the public for information on the suspect’s whereabouts.
Authorities accused Taufik of abusing and confining his 29-year-old girlfriend, identified by the initials YTR, inside a rented room in Cileunyi, Bandung Regency, for nearly three years.
According to investigators and the victim’s family, YTR suffered severe physical abuse throughout the ordeal. She reportedly lost much of her vision, sustained a split lip, struggled to speak, and could no longer walk because of her injuries.
The victim’s family filed a police report with West Java Police on June 12. She is currently receiving intensive treatment at Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS) in Bandung.
Police have not yet disclosed the full list of criminal charges against Taufik. However, investigators continue gathering evidence and questioning witnesses to determine the complete extent of the alleged abuse and captivity.
The case has sparked widespread public outrage in Indonesia. Many have called for strict legal action against the suspect and stronger protection for victims of domestic and intimate partner violence.
