Jakarta, ThedailyID — 259 passengers on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight spent around eight hours inside a plane without working air conditioning after a technical problem forced an emergency landing in Rome.

The flight departed from Toronto Pearson International Airport, Canada, at around 5:18 p.m. on August 6, 2026.

After roughly eight hours in the air, the aircraft developed a technical problem. The crew then made an emergency landing at Fiumicino International Airport in Rome, Italy, at around 7:20 a.m. on August 7.

The passengers remained inside the aircraft while the airline worked to resolve the problem. However, the plane’s air conditioning system was not functioning during the wait.

The conditions left several passengers feeling unwell, according to reports cited by VN Express and Daily Star.

After hours of unsuccessful repairs, Biman Bangladesh Airlines eventually canceled the flight. Staff then asked passengers to leave the aircraft and move to the airport terminal.

The airline later sent a technical team from Bangladesh to Rome. The team arrived on August 8 with spare parts and equipment needed to repair the aircraft.

The aircraft eventually returned to service and flew from Rome to Dhaka later that day.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines has not disclosed the specific technical problem that caused the air conditioning system to fail. Daily Sun reported that technicians had completed the repairs and cleared the aircraft for further operations.

The incident follows a similar case involving Emirates in July. In that incident, 373 passengers spent about 10 hours inside an aircraft without air conditioning after technical and operational problems disrupted a flight from Dubai to Shanghai.

Both incidents have renewed attention on passenger comfort and safety during prolonged delays on the ground.
