Trump Extends Ceasefire With Iran Despite Rejection

Jakarta, ThedailyID — Donald Trump has extended the United States’ ceasefire with Iran, despite clear rejection from Tehran and ongoing stalled negotiations.

Trump announced the extension on April 21, 2026, just hours before the initial agreement expired. He said the move would allow more time for Iran to submit a formal proposal and continue diplomatic talks.

However, Iranian officials quickly pushed back. They stated that Tehran never requested any extension and does not recognize the decision.

In addition, senior Iranian figures described the move as meaningless. Some officials argued it serves as a tactic to delay conflict while maintaining pressure on Iran.

Despite extending the ceasefire, the U.S. continues its naval blockade on Iranian ports. Trump confirmed that military readiness remains in place, signaling that pressure will not ease.

As a result, tensions between both sides remain high. Iran has warned that continued blockade actions could trigger military retaliation if the situation escalates further.

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts remain uncertain. Planned negotiations have faced delays, and Iran has shown limited willingness to return to talks under current conditions.

Analysts note that extending the ceasefire without mutual agreement highlights the fragile state of relations. While the move may prevent immediate escalation, it does not resolve the underlying conflict.

Overall, the situation reflects a complex standoff. The ceasefire continues on paper, but trust between Washington and Tehran remains deeply strained.
