Jakarta, ThedailyID — Estonia has been named the world’s best country for relocation in 2026, surpassing popular destinations such as Singapore and Malaysia, according to the latest Rumavi Global Relocation Index.
The annual ranking evaluated 192 countries and territories using 24 different indicators. The assessment covered taxation, cost of living, healthcare, public safety, and how easy it is for newcomers to build social connections.
Unlike many global rankings, the index also considered different relocation needs. It tailored results for families, retirees, entrepreneurs, and digital nomads instead of applying a single standard to everyone.
So, what helped Estonia secure the top spot?
According to Time Out, Estonia has spent years building one of the world’s most advanced digital societies. Its well-known e-Residency program allows entrepreneurs to establish and manage an EU-based company entirely online without living in the country.
The country also introduced one of Europe’s earliest Digital Nomad Visa programs. Combined with high-quality healthcare, low crime rates, and relatively straightforward residency procedures, Estonia scored strongly across nearly every category.
Singapore ranked second overall, while Malaysia secured third place. The results highlight Southeast Asia’s continued appeal as a destination for expatriates and remote workers.
Portugal, a long-time favorite among international residents, placed fourth. The rest of the top 10 includes countries across Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean.
