Jakarta, ThedailyID — South Korea recorded temperatures as high as 42 degrees Celsius as an intense heatwave swept across the country, prompting authorities to urge residents to reduce outdoor activities.
Officials advised people to stay indoors whenever possible, especially during the hottest hours of the day. They also encouraged residents to drink plenty of water, avoid strenuous outdoor work, and pay close attention to vulnerable groups such as older adults, children, and people with underlying health conditions.
The extreme temperatures have increased concerns over heat-related illnesses, including heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Health authorities urged employers to adjust outdoor work schedules and ensure workers have access to shade and regular breaks.
The heatwave has also placed additional pressure on the country’s power grid as electricity demand for air conditioning continues to rise.
Meteorological officials warned that high temperatures could persist in the coming days, with little relief expected. Authorities said they would continue monitoring conditions and issue further advisories if necessary.
South Korea has experienced increasingly frequent and intense heatwaves in recent years, a trend scientists have linked to rising global temperatures and climate change.
