Jakarta, ThedailyID — Samsung denied allegations made by Dua Lipa after the singer filed a US$15 million lawsuit over the alleged unauthorized use of her image in television promotions.
According to reports from The Guardian, Samsung stated that the disputed photo came from a third-party partner connected to its Samsung TV Plus service.
The company also claimed the image was used after receiving assurances that all required permissions had already been obtained.
Dua Lipa previously accused Samsung of using her photo on television packaging sold across the United States throughout 2025 without consent or compensation.
The lawsuit was filed in a US district court in California.
Court documents stated that Dua Lipa only discovered the alleged use in June 2025. She then reportedly demanded Samsung stop using the image immediately.
However, the singer claimed the company ignored the request.
“Dua Lipa’s face was prominently used in a mass marketing campaign for consumer products without her knowledge, compensation, approval, control, or involvement,” the lawsuit stated.
The filing also claimed Samsung created the impression that Dua Lipa officially endorsed its products.
Meanwhile, Samsung maintained that the company relied on licensing guarantees provided by its content partner.
The singer accused Samsung of copyright infringement, trademark violations, and violating publicity rights.
The lawsuit also highlighted Dua Lipa’s previous partnerships with brands including Apple, Porsche, Versace, Bulgari, and Nespresso.
Dua Lipa is seeking at least US$15 million in damages, a permanent injunction against Samsung, and additional legal costs.
