Jakarta, ThedailyID — Sadie Sink has revealed how she kept her role as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day a secret before the film’s release.
Speaking to Variety, the actress said only a small group of people knew about her casting.
“It feels like such a relief,” Sink said after finally being able to discuss the role publicly.
She admitted that more than three people knew the secret, including her family and a few trusted industry colleagues.
Among the first people she informed were Matt and Ross Duffer, the creators of Stranger Things.
Sink said she wanted to tell the brothers because they played a major role in her career and watched her grow up while filming the Netflix series.
“They’ve had such a huge impact on my career and my life. They watched me grow up, so I wanted them to know what I was doing next,” Sink said.
According to Sink, the Duffer brothers immediately encouraged her to accept the role.
“They said, ‘That’s the best character. You have to do it. It’s perfect for you. You’ll be amazing,'” she recalled.
Sink said she trusted their opinion because both are longtime comic book fans and understand Marvel characters well.
She added that she did not tell many other people, including most of her Stranger Things co-stars.
In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Sink plays Jean Grey, the powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men comics who possesses telekinetic abilities.
The character initially appears as an antagonist before becoming an ally to Peter Parker, also known as Spider-Man.
Many fans believe Jean Grey’s debut marks the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s introduction of the X-Men.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently hinted that the film sets up another major Marvel franchise.
“For people who have seen Brand New Day, they know where the story is heading,” Feige said. “It leads toward another famous Marvel franchise created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.”
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
The film also stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon.
