Jakarta, ThedailyID — Head of the Government Communications Office, Muhammad Qodari, explained why President Prabowo Subianto has frequently traveled overseas since taking office in October 2024.
Speaking during an interview with CNN Indonesia’s Inside Story With Diana on Tuesday, June 16, Qodari said current geopolitical conditions differ significantly from previous years. Therefore, Indonesia must actively strengthen diplomatic ties with other nations.
According to Qodari, Prabowo’s foreign visits aim to build strategic alliances amid growing global uncertainty. At the same time, the president seeks resources that Indonesia still relies on from abroad, particularly energy supplies.
Qodari noted that Indonesia continues to depend heavily on imports to meet domestic energy demand. He cited oil consumption as an example, saying a significant portion of national demand still comes from imported supplies.
As a result, the government views diplomacy as essential for securing access to energy-producing countries and maintaining stable supply chains.
Moreover, Qodari highlighted ongoing shifts in global power dynamics between the United States and China. He described the transition as a sensitive period that could increase geopolitical tensions around the world.
Because of these risks, he said Indonesia must maintain strong relations with multiple countries while also strengthening domestic resilience.
Qodari added that Prabowo continues to prioritize food self-sufficiency as part of the government’s long-term strategy. He argued that global conflicts or major disruptions could occur unexpectedly, making national preparedness increasingly important.
“The president’s perspective is shaped by these geopolitical realities,” Qodari said, adding that Prabowo’s approach may differ from that of outside observers.
The government has repeatedly emphasized that diplomacy, energy security, and food resilience remain key priorities as Indonesia navigates an increasingly uncertain global environment.
