Jakarta, ThedailyID — Police have released the identities of the eight people killed after a race car crashed into spectators during the Tidar Drag Race Championship 2026 in Kotamobagu, North Sulawesi, on August 10.
The fatal accident also left 9 others injured after one of the competing vehicles lost control and struck the crowd.
The victims who died were identified as Harianti Mokoginta, Nilawati Mokodongan, Lisma Mokoginta, Ali Ponamo, Riana Longkun, Biyo Mokoagow, Rugaina Manangin, and Ali Jojang.
Kotamobagu Police Chief Abdul Kholik said investigators have launched an investigation with the Kotamobagu city administration and race organizers to determine the cause of the crash.
“Together with the Kotamobagu city government and the event committee, we are conducting a crime scene investigation,” Kholik said on Monday.
Police are also examining whether negligence contributed to the accident.
“We are continuing to identify and question witnesses at the scene,” he said.
Kotamobagu Mayor Weny Gani said the local government would also conduct its own investigation.
“We will carry out a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the accident and prevent a similar incident from happening again,” Gani said.
Authorities have not yet announced the cause of the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
