Jakarta, ThedailyID — Indonesian Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo said around 6,000 employees at the ministry have been linked to suspected online gambling transactions, citing data from the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK).
Dody said the findings prompted the ministry to tighten internal oversight and rotate several officials.
Speaking on a podcast, Dody stressed that the figures came from PPATK rather than the ministry’s own investigation.
“This is not my data. It comes from PPATK. Online gambling is a criminal offense,” Dody said, according to an official statement released on Wednesday, July 15.
The Public Works Ministry employs around 38,600 civil servants, meaning roughly 15% of its workforce appeared in PPATK’s transaction data.
However, Dody did not disclose the value of the transactions, the monitoring period, or the status of any investigations involving the employees.
He also did not say how many workers had received disciplinary sanctions or been referred to law enforcement authorities.
The PPATK findings do not automatically mean the employees committed criminal offenses.
Authorities must still verify the account holders, examine transaction patterns, and determine whether the accounts were connected to online gambling operators.
Besides the gambling findings, Dody revealed that about 4,000 employees had manipulated the ministry’s electronic attendance system.
The figure represents roughly one in ten ministry employees.
“Imagine that. Around 3,000 to 4,000 people manipulated their attendance records. One in ten employees lied about attendance,” Dody said.
The ministry uncovered the violations after improving its electronic attendance system and strengthening supervision.
Dody said weak enforcement and close personal relationships among employees had allowed disciplinary violations to continue for years.
According to him, some employees protected colleagues facing disciplinary action, making it difficult to enforce sanctions.
He did not explain how the attendance records were manipulated or whether the violations occurred during the same period.
