Jakarta, ThedailyID — President Prabowo Subianto joked that ministers who cannot handle their duties should step aside. He said many people are ready to take their positions.
“Those who cannot handle it can step aside, many want to replace you,” Prabowo said while laughing at the launch of the national 100 GWp solar power program in Jembrana, Bali, Tuesday (25/08).
Prabowo said ministers in the Red and White Cabinet have almost no time off. They even use national holidays for government activities.
He pointed to Tuesday’s Maulid Nabi Muhammad SAW holiday. Prabowo spent the day attending the launch and groundbreaking of the 100 GWp solar power program in Gilimanuk, Jembrana.
“Today is an important day. Even though it is a holiday, even though it is Maulid Nabi, we are fighting for the people,” Prabowo said.
“In the Red and White Cabinet, there may be almost no red dates. That is the risk, the risk of serving,” he added.
State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said the 100 GWp solar power program supports the government’s priority agenda on energy and water independence.
The program aims to strengthen Indonesia’s energy security. It also seeks to reduce the country’s reliance on fossil fuels.
Prasetyo said Prabowo had ordered the government to accelerate the construction of 100 GWp of solar power capacity. The government aims to complete the program by 2029.
The program could also reduce electricity costs by an estimated Rp73.9 trillion per year.
For 2026, the government targets 30 GWp of new solar power capacity. It also plans to retire 13 GW of diesel-fired power plants.
Indonesia has an estimated solar energy potential of 3,294 GWp. However, installed capacity stood at only around 1.5 GWp as of April 2026.
The government will develop the 100 GWp program in stages. The first phase will add 17 GWp, followed by 18 GWp in the second phase and 30 GWp in the third.
Prasetyo said the program could also drive new economic growth. It could attract investment in power plants, batteries and electricity networks.
The government also expects the program to strengthen the domestic solar PV industry and create green jobs.
