Jakarta, ThedailyID — Police are investigating the reported abduction of Indonesian golfer Jesslyn Wijaya Lay, who allegedly disappeared during her grandmother’s birthday celebration at a restaurant in Central Jakarta on July 13.
According to the family’s legal representative, Andi Darti, the incident occurred at around 7:45 p.m. local time at Saung Kita Restaurant in the Mangga Besar area.
Andi said two unidentified men suddenly covered Jesslyn’s eyes and forced her into a black vehicle shortly before the family gathering began.
Witnesses reportedly heard the golfer screaming for help and saw her attempt to escape the vehicle. However, the men allegedly forced her back inside before driving away.
According to witness accounts, about five men were present at the scene during the incident.
Since then, Jesslyn has remained unreachable. Her family also said they have been unable to contact her through her mobile phone.
The family has filed an official report with the Central Jakarta Metro Police, which registered the case under report number LP/B/2092/VII/2026/SPKT/POLRES METRO JAKPUS/POLDA METRO JAYA.
Andi urged Indonesian police to conduct a thorough, transparent, and professional investigation to determine Jesslyn’s whereabouts.
