Jakarta, ThedailyID — North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has reportedly expressed interest in hosting Chinese President Xi Jinping for an official visit, signaling a different diplomatic approach compared to his interactions with other world leaders.
According to reports, Kim conveyed his desire for Xi to visit North Korea during recent diplomatic exchanges between Pyongyang and Beijing.
The move highlights the importance of China-North Korea relations at a time of growing geopolitical tensions in East Asia.
China remains North Korea’s largest trading partner and most important political ally. As a result, ties between the two countries continue to play a key role in regional stability and economic cooperation.
Observers noted that Kim has not extended similar invitations to former US President Donald Trump or Russian President Vladimir Putin despite maintaining diplomatic engagement with both leaders in recent years.
Moreover, the reported invitation reflects Pyongyang’s continued effort to strengthen its relationship with Beijing amid shifting global alliances.
Xi last visited North Korea in 2019. The trip marked the first visit by a Chinese president to the country in more than a decade and underscored the strategic partnership between the neighboring states.
Meanwhile, analysts believe a future visit could provide both governments with an opportunity to deepen economic cooperation and coordinate positions on regional security issues.
Neither Beijing nor Pyongyang has officially announced a date for a potential summit. However, the reported invitation has already attracted attention across diplomatic circles.
As geopolitical competition intensifies across the Asia-Pacific region, closer coordination between China and North Korea could carry significant implications for regional diplomacy and security.
