Thai Teen Dies After Deadly School Shooting That Killed Six

Jakarta, ThedailyID — Thai authorities say a teenager carried out the deadly school shooting at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Bang Kruai District, Nonthaburi Province, on August 7, leaving six people dead, including the suspected gunman.

Local broadcaster Thai PBS reported that the attack also injured 10 to 15 people.

Reuters reported that one of the victims was a teacher. Authorities have not yet confirmed the identities of all those killed.

Police believe the teenage suspect died by suicide after the shooting. Officials have not formally confirmed the cause of death.

Investigators are continuing to examine the motive behind the attack.

Thailand has one of the highest rates of civilian firearm ownership in Southeast Asia. Authorities estimate that about 10 million firearms are in civilian hands, or roughly one gun for every seven residents.

The latest shooting has renewed attention on gun control measures in the country.

In February 2026, police shot and arrested a teenage suspect after a school shooting in southern Thailand that killed a principal and injured two students.

Thailand also witnessed one of its deadliest mass killings in 2022, when a former police officer killed 36 people, including 24 children, during an attack on a childcare center.
