Jakarta, ThedailyID — Former Indonesian President Joko Widodo visited earthquake survivors in Sikka, East Nusa Tenggara, on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
Jokowi arrived in Cawalo Hamlet, Rokirole Village, Palue District, where residents welcomed him. He also spoke directly with people staying at an evacuation camp.
During the visit, residents shared their experiences following the earthquake. They also raised concerns about damaged homes and their needs during the recovery period.
Jokowi then inspected damaged infrastructure and buildings in the area. He also symbolically handed over assistance to affected residents.
The former president later spent the night at the evacuation site with earthquake survivors. ANTARA confirmed that he stayed at the camp during his visit to Palue.
Nikodemus W. Lowo, coordinator of the main post in Rikorole Village, welcomed Jokowi’s visit. He said residents were surprised to see the former president staying close to them.
“I almost could not believe that Mr. Joko Widodo came here. For us, personally, it felt like a dream, but it became a reality when he came and stayed very close to us,” Nikodemus said, according to ANTARA, Thursday, September 17.
The visit came as Palue continued its recovery from the earthquake. Earlier in September, residents in the area still faced difficulties accessing clean water and drinking water.
Jokowi has also made several visits to other parts of Indonesia in recent months. He visited East Nusa Tenggara in early August and spent three days in Kupang from July 31 to August 2.
During that trip, he met seaweed farmers, attended a regional PSI meeting and joined several public and cultural activities.
