Jakarta, ThedailyID — Former Indonesian President Joko Widodo has revealed what he discussed with President Prabowo Subianto during their meeting in Jakarta on Tuesday, October 6.
The meeting took place at Prabowo’s Kertanegara residence in South Jakarta. It also coincided with the Constitutional Court’s ruling on Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s vice-presidential candidacy requirements.
Jokowi said the two did not discuss the Constitutional Court ruling. He stressed that judicial matters remain separate from executive affairs.
“That is the judicial domain, while this is the executive domain. They are separate. No, we did not discuss the Constitutional Court ruling,” Jokowi said on Thursday, October 8.
Jokowi said Prabowo invited him to the meeting. Their discussion lasted around two hours and covered several topics.
“We talked about football, as well as the economy and politics,” Jokowi said.
According to Jokowi, football became one of the main topics during the meeting. He said they discussed the Indonesian national team’s victory in the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup.
“We discussed the football victory. Yes, there was a lot of talk about football because we were happy that we won,” Jokowi said.
Reporters also asked Jokowi whether he and Prabowo discussed Gibran’s potential political future in the 2029 presidential election.
Jokowi urged people not to discuss the 2029 election too early. He said political and government figures should focus on their current responsibilities.
“It is still a long way to 2029. Everyone should work first, whether in politics or government, and work for the people,” Jokowi said.
Jokowi and Prabowo met at Kertanegara on Tuesday evening. Jokowi’s aide, AKBP Syarif, previously confirmed that Prabowo had invited him.
Syarif said the meeting began at around 7 p.m. and ended at around 9 p.m. The meeting therefore lasted approximately two hours.
