JAI Workers Welcome New Board, Call for Stronger Maritime Operations

The union sees the leadership change as an opportunity to improve productivity, operational reliability, and market competitiveness.

The Serikat Pekerja Pelabuhan Indonesia Bersatu (SPPI Bersatu) Branch Office at JAI said the transition could strengthen frontline execution and commercial performance.

Speaking in Jakarta on Sunday, DPC SPPI Bersatu Chairman Agung Subali said sustainable growth depends on turning leadership changes into measurable operational improvements.

Agung also expressed appreciation for former President Director Shanti Puruhita and former Director of Fleet and Operations Arief Hermawan.

He said their leadership built an important operational foundation for the company’s next phase of expansion. Meanwhile, the union welcomed Dwi Rahmad Toto as the new President Director.

I Wayan Wirawan has also taken over as Director of Fleet and Operations.
Looking ahead, SPPI Bersatu said JAI must focus on more than expanding its business scale. The union highlighted asset efficiency, service agility, and workforce capabilities as key priorities.

“The next chapter for JAI is not merely about growing larger. The challenge lies in becoming more productive, more efficient, more competitive, and increasingly valuable,” Agung said.

He added that JAI must align its vessels, market opportunities, and workforce skills with sustainable business growth.

JAI operates under the IPC Marine brand and is a subsidiary of PT Pelindo Jasa Maritim. The company is part of the state-owned PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) group.

The company provides pilotage, towage, and specialized maritime services across major Indonesian shipping hubs. Its operations include Tanjung Priok, Patimban, Panjang, Teluk Bayur, and Palembang.

Agung stressed that operational excellence must translate into improvements in daily harbor activities. He also highlighted fleet readiness, workplace safety, and workers’ technical skills.

“The results of leadership changes do not stop in boardrooms. They must be reflected on the vessels, at the docks, in customer service, and in daily operations,” Agung said.

He added that asset productivity and workforce capabilities must grow together.
SPPI Bersatu also reaffirmed its commitment to working with the new management. The union will support digital technology adoption, operational safety, and service quality improvements.

Agung said stronger cooperation between shareholders, management, and workers will remain essential. He added that the partnership can support customers, employees, the Pelindo group, and Indonesia’s wider maritime sector.
