Jakarta, ThedailyID — Israel has reportedly rejected key parts of a newly announced peace agreement between the United States and Iran and pledged to continue military operations in Lebanon despite the diplomatic breakthrough.
The agreement, brokered with the help of Pakistan and other mediators, aims to end months of regional hostilities, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and establish a framework for further negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
However, Israeli officials have expressed frustration over the deal. They argue that the agreement fails to address several security concerns, including Iran’s regional influence and support for armed groups such as Hezbollah.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said Israel was not a party to the agreement. He also stressed that Israeli forces would maintain security operations in Lebanon, Gaza, and Syria.
Meanwhile, tensions escalated after Israeli airstrikes targeted Hezbollah-linked sites near Beirut. The attacks drew criticism from U.S. President Donald Trump, who warned that further military action could undermine efforts to finalize the peace deal.
Trump urged all parties to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could derail the negotiations. He maintained that Washington and Tehran remained close to implementing the agreement despite the latest violence.
Lebanese officials welcomed the diplomatic progress but remained cautious. Authorities warned displaced residents not to return home too quickly because security conditions in southern Lebanon remain unstable.
The peace framework includes provisions aimed at reducing tensions across the region, including Lebanon. Nevertheless, Israel’s refusal to halt operations has raised questions about the agreement’s long-term effectiveness.
Analysts say the coming weeks will be critical for the deal. While the agreement marks a significant diplomatic achievement, ongoing military actions could complicate efforts to achieve lasting stability in the Middle East.
