Jakarta, ThedailyID — Iran has cleared two Indonesian oil tankers to leave the Strait of Hormuz after days of uncertainty in the region.
The vessels belong to PT Pertamina International Shipping. Rising tensions in the Middle East delayed their movement and disrupted shipping activity. The situation raised concerns over the safety of both the vessels and their crews.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a key route for global oil supply. A large portion of the world’s energy shipments passes through the narrow waterway. Any disruption in the area can quickly affect global markets.
Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry maintained direct communication with Iranian authorities from the start. Officials also coordinated through the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran to push for a resolution. The government focused on ensuring the safety of Indonesian assets while securing a diplomatic solution.
“Since the beginning, we have maintained intensive coordination with relevant parties,” said Vahd Nabyl A. Mulachela, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson.
Iran later gave a positive response to Indonesia’s request. Authorities are now preparing technical and operational steps for the tankers to leave the area. However, officials have not confirmed a departure timeline.
Earlier, Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said the government was negotiating to secure the vessels’ release. He stressed the importance of stable maritime routes for Indonesia’s energy supply. He also highlighted the risks that disruptions could pose to national logistics.
The incident reflects broader tensions in the Middle East. The region has seen increasing instability, which continues to affect global shipping lanes. Analysts warn that prolonged tension could lead to further delays and higher costs.
Shipping companies may face rising insurance premiums and operational risks. These factors could eventually push global oil prices higher. Countries that rely on imported energy, including Indonesia, may feel the impact more strongly.
For now, the clearance marks a positive step forward. Still, uncertainty remains over conditions in the area. Indonesian authorities continue to monitor developments closely as the situation evolves.
