Jakarta, ThedailyID — Indonesia’s convincing 5-1 victory over Cambodia at the 2026 AFF Championship will not immediately change the national team’s FIFA ranking.
Although FIFA introduced a system that updates ranking points immediately after many international matches, the governing body applies a different process to the regional tournament.
Instead, FIFA will calculate all ranking points earned during the AFF Championship after the competition concludes.
According to FIFA, some matches take place outside the official international match window. As a result, the organisation postpones ranking updates until the next official calculation period.
“Some matches take place outside the official match window, and the new official ranking will be calculated at the end of the next official match period,” FIFA said.
Therefore, Indonesia’s latest FIFA ranking remains unchanged despite the dominant win over Cambodia.
The national team currently sits 118th in the world.
However, Indonesia will still earn FIFA ranking points from the victory, even though the gain will be smaller than points awarded during official FIFA international windows.
If Indonesia continues winning throughout the group stage and advances through the semi-finals and final, the team could move closer to the world’s top 110 by the time FIFA updates the rankings after the tournament.
