Jakarta, ThedailyID — Indonesia has surpassed its four-gold target at the 2026 Asian Games after Nurisa Dian Ashrifah won gold in the women’s individual compound archery event.
Before the Asian Games began, Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir set four gold medals as a realistic target for Indonesia in Aichi-Nagoya.
The target was lower than Indonesia’s seven-gold haul at the 2022 Asian Games. Erick said several medal events that Indonesia previously relied on were not included in the 2026 program.
“Of course, this is normal in sports politics. Several events are gone, such as two dragon boat events and some shooting events,” Erick said.
He identified badminton, sport climbing and weightlifting as some of Indonesia’s key medal opportunities.
Those sports delivered several gold medals. Indonesia won the men’s badminton team event and the men’s doubles title through Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin.
Weightlifter Rahmat Erwin Abdullah also secured gold. Sport climber Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi added another gold for the Indonesian contingent.
Indonesia reached the four-gold target through those three sports. A day later, Nurisa added another gold from archery.
Nurisa won the women’s individual compound event on Thursday morning, October 1, Indonesia time. Her victory lifted Indonesia’s total to five gold medals.
The 20-year-old also recorded a milestone for Indonesian archery. She became the first Indonesian archer to win an Asian Games gold medal, according to the source.
Indonesia still has athletes competing in other medal events. The contingent therefore has opportunities to add more gold medals before the 2026 Asian Games conclude.
