Jakarta, ThedailyID — Indonesia’s civil registry has recorded hundreds of citizens with names inspired by anime characters and global celebrities, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil).
Speaking at the 2026 National Dukcapil Coordination Meeting on August 3, Director General Teguh Setyabudi shared several unusual naming trends.
The registry lists 181 Indonesians named Nobita, the main character from Doraemon.
It also records 190 people named Uzumaki, the famous clan name from Naruto. The database includes 158 Sasukes, 157 Narutos, and 152 Uchihas.
Anime influences extend beyond Naruto. Dukcapil also found 79 people named D Luffy, after the main character in One Piece.
Teguh said international celebrities have also inspired many Indonesian parents. The registry contains around 142,000 people named Olivia. It also includes names such as Olivia Rodrigo, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, and Taylor Swift.
The data reflects how global pop culture continues to shape naming trends across Indonesia. Parents increasingly choose names from fictional characters and internationally known entertainers.
