IHSG Falls 0.39% Following Resignation of BGN Head

Jakarta, ThedailyID — Indonesia’s benchmark stock index closed lower at midday on July 22, following the resignation of National Nutrition Agency (BGN) chief Nanik Sudaryati Deyang.

The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) fell 24.47 points, or 0.39%, to 6,315.55 at the end of the first trading session. The index moved between gains and losses throughout the morning, reaching an intraday high of 6,394 and a low of 6,297.

Market data showed 366 stocks declined, while 238 advanced and 190 remained unchanged. Total market capitalization stood at Rp11,072.8 trillion.

Trading volume reached 29.93 billion shares, with a transaction value of Rp11.24 trillion. Investors completed about 1.81 million transactions during the morning session.

Meanwhile, foreign investors recorded a net purchase of Rp31.36 billion across all markets. They bought a net Rp360.21 billion on the regular market but sold a net Rp328.86 billion in negotiated and cash transactions.

Domestic investors continued to dominate trading activity. They accounted for 83% of total trading volume, while foreign investors contributed the remaining 17%.

Earlier in the day, Nanik announced her resignation through a post on her Facebook account. She said health concerns prompted her decision and confirmed that President Prabowo Subianto had accepted her request to step down.

Nanik also said she plans to seek medical treatment overseas after leaving office.

The leadership change comes as the government continues to implement national nutrition programs under President Prabowo’s administration.
