How Suzhou Industrial Park Became a Global Model for High-Tech Industrial Development

Jakarta, ThedailyID — Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) in Suzhou, China, has emerged as one of the world’s leading models for modern industrial development.

From the upper floors of the SIP Exhibition Center, visitors can overlook a sprawling innovation district surrounding Jinji Lake. Office towers stand alongside research centers, universities, commercial areas, and green public spaces connected by integrated roads and public transportation.

Located in Jiangsu Province, SIP has grown into one of China’s most important industrial hubs over the past three decades.

China launched the project with Singapore in 1994 to build a world-class innovation center. Since then, the area has transformed into a key driver of economic growth.

During a visit to the SIP Exhibition Center in June, CNN Indonesia observed how the district combines industry, research, education, business, and residential communities within a single ecosystem.

The exhibition center showcases SIP’s development through digital models, interactive displays, and advanced technologies created by companies operating in the district.

Officials also highlight the area’s transition from a manufacturing base into an innovation center focused on high-value industries.

According to the SIP Administrative Committee, the district generated 416.31 billion yuan in gross domestic product in 2025. The figure marked a 5.5% increase from the previous year.

Today, SIP focuses on six strategic sectors. These include next-generation information technology, advanced manufacturing, biomedicine, nanotechnology and new materials, artificial intelligence, and green energy.

The exhibition features industrial robots, semiconductor chips, medical devices, and manufacturing technologies powered by AI and the Internet of Things.

Visitors can also explore displays highlighting the district’s growing biomedical industry, which has become one of its flagship sectors.

Besides industrial development, SIP has modernized public services through its Easy-Gov.SIP digital platform.

The system combines business licensing, investment administration, workforce services, and public services into a single online platform.

“Digital services help accelerate administrative processes while providing greater certainty for investors,” an exhibition staff member said.

One section of the exhibition displays the slogan, “Pursuing the Forefront of Reform and Opening-up and Striving to be the Pioneer of a New Era.”

Indonesia-China industrial cooperation

Indonesia and China continue to strengthen cooperation through industrial development.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said industrial park cooperation has become an important pillar of the two countries’ economic partnership.

“Industrial park cooperation between Indonesia and China forms part of efforts to deepen economic ties between both countries,” Airlangga said.

Chinese companies have invested in several industrial estates across Indonesia, including Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP), Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP), Kendal Industrial Park, Batang Integrated Industrial Estate, Bintan Industrial Estate, and industrial zones in Cikarang.

Airlangga said the cooperation is expected to deliver long-term economic benefits for both countries.
