Jakarta, ThedailyID — Jonatan Christie has climbed to the top of the world badminton rankings despite losing points this week.
Jonatan dropped 1,600 points to 87,631 after points from his quarterfinal appearance at the 2025 World Championships expired from the ranking calculation.
His 6,000 points from the 2026 World Championships did not replace those points among his 10 highest tournament scores. Instead, his 6,600 points from the 2026 Asian Championships entered the calculation.
Jonatan’s run at the 2026 World Championships ended in the round of 16 after he lost to Rasmus Gemke. As the third seed, he earned only 6,000 ranking points from the tournament.
Despite the decline, Jonatan moved to No. 1 because Kunlavut Vitidsarn and Shi Yuqi suffered larger drops in their rankings.
Kunlavut fell to third, while Christo Popov moved into second. Shi Yuqi dropped to sixth after losing more than 10,000 points.
Jonatan’s 10 highest-scoring tournaments currently include the 2025 Denmark Open, 2026 Indonesia Open, India Open and 2025 Hylo Open.
His other counted results include the 2025 Korea Open, 2026 Thomas Cup, 2026 Malaysia Open, 2025 BWF World Tour Finals, 2026 China Open and 2026 Asian Championships.
With 87,631 points, Jonatan now holds the No. 1 spot in the world rankings, even though his overall points declined from the previous week.
