Jakarta, ThedailyID — Diarrhea remains one of the most common digestive problems. However, many people still ignore the early symptoms until the condition worsens.
Health experts warn that untreated diarrhea can lead to dehydration and other complications. Therefore, recognizing the symptoms early is important.
Here are five common diarrhea symptoms that often appear:
1. Frequent Watery Bowel Movements
The most common sign is passing loose or watery stools more than three times a day. This symptom usually appears first and may continue for several days.
2. Stomach Cramps and Pain
Many people experience stomach cramps, abdominal pain, or a feeling of discomfort before using the bathroom. The pain can range from mild to severe.
3. Nausea and Vomiting
Diarrhea often comes with nausea or vomiting, especially when infections trigger the condition. These symptoms can also increase the risk of dehydration.
4. Bloating
People with diarrhea may feel bloated or experience excessive gas. This happens because the digestive system becomes irritated and struggles to process food normally.
5. Dehydration
Frequent fluid loss can quickly lead to dehydration. Common signs include dry mouth, intense thirst, dizziness, weakness, and darker urine.
Doctors advise people to seek medical attention if diarrhea lasts more than a few days, contains blood, or comes with high fever and severe dehydration symptoms.
To reduce the risk, experts recommend drinking enough water, maintaining food hygiene, and replacing lost fluids immediately when symptoms appear.
