Jakarta, ThedailyID — An extreme dry season has left 13 districts in Tangerang Regency struggling with clean water shortages, affecting at least 6,260 residents, local disaster officials said on August 5, 2026.
The drought has spread across 64 villages and urban wards, according to Achmad Taufik, head of the Tangerang Regency Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).
“The drought has affected 13 districts and 64 villages or urban wards in Tangerang Regency,” Taufik said.
The affected districts include Legok, Tigaraksa, Jambe, Panongan, Rajeg, Kronjo, Curug, Kelapa Dua, Cikupa, Sukadiri, Balaraja, Mekar Baru, and Pagedangan.
Taufik said the prolonged dry season began in May 2026 and could continue until October 2026.
“The prolonged dry season has caused water shortages, increased the risk of fires, and raised the possibility of crop failures,” he said.
The BPBD has worked with the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), the Housing and Settlement Agency, the regional water utility (PDAM), and private partners to deliver clean water.
Officials said the coordinated response has helped meet residents’ immediate water needs while authorities continue monitoring the drought.
