Chicken, Egg Prices Stay Stable as New Farmgate Benchmark Takes Effect

Jakarta, ThedailyID — Chicken and egg prices remained stable across several traditional markets in Jakarta on Wednesday, July 15, despite the government’s new farmgate purchase benchmark taking effect.

The Ministry of Agriculture set the benchmark purchase price for live broiler chickens at Rp19,500 per kilogram. It also set the benchmark for eggs at Rp24,000 per kilogram at the farm level.

At Lenteng Agung Market in South Jakarta, vendors sold chicken for around Rp45,000 per kilogram. Eggs cost Rp23,500 per kilogram.

Other staple goods also showed stable prices. Shallots sold for Rp35,000 per kilogram, garlic Rp45,000, red chilies Rp45,000, cooking oil Rp20,000 per liter, and rice ranged from Rp11,000 to Rp15,000 per kilogram.

Poultry vendor Ucok said the new policy had not changed retail prices.

“So far, nothing has increased. Only shallots became cheaper, dropping from Rp50,000 to Rp35,000 per kilogram,” he said.

Traders at Pasar Minggu Market reported similar conditions. They sold chicken for Rp34,000 per kilogram and eggs for Rp26,000 per kilogram.

Shallots cost Rp45,000 per kilogram. Round garlic sold for Rp45,000, while premium garlic reached Rp50,000 per kilogram.

Red chilies stayed at Rp45,000 per kilogram. Cooking oil sold for Rp22,000 per liter, while rice ranged from Rp12,000 to Rp15,000 per kilogram.

Vendor Sudrajat said garlic was the only commodity that became more expensive over the past week.

“Round garlic increased from Rp40,000 to Rp45,000 per kilogram, while premium garlic rose from Rp45,000 to Rp50,000,” he said.

He added that the new farmgate benchmark had not affected chicken and egg prices.

According to the National Strategic Food Price Information Center (PIHPS), the national average price on July 15 reached Rp37,550 per kilogram for fresh chicken and Rp28,000 per kilogram for fresh eggs.

The agency also recorded shallots at Rp45,550 per kilogram and garlic at Rp45,500 per kilogram. Curly red chilies averaged Rp43,650 per kilogram. Cooking oil sold for Rp23,950 per liter, while rice ranged from Rp14,750 to Rp17,350 per kilogram.

Market checks also found no major price increases after the government resumed the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program.

Overall, chicken, eggs, chilies, cooking oil, and rice remained stable. Only garlic posted a noticeable increase over the past week.
