BSI Grows 128,000-Agent Network to Reach Remote Villages Across Indonesia

Jakarta, ThedailyID — Bank Syariah Indonesia has expanded its agent banking network to more than 128,000 agents as of March 2026. The move deepens financial access in rural communities across Indonesia.

The network grew 11.31 percent year-on-year. It reflects the growing role of BSI Agen in extending branchless Islamic banking services.

Through the network, customers can make withdrawals, transfers, deposits, bill payments, and hajj payment settlements. Many can do so without visiting a bank branch.

“Serving wholeheartedly remains our commitment,” said Anton Sukarna.

He said BSI Agen helps improve Islamic financial literacy and inclusion. It also supports communities far from formal banking infrastructure.

The expansion comes as Indonesia pushes wider financial inclusion, especially in rural areas.

BSI also reported strong transaction growth. By March, BSI Agen handled 8.6 million transactions. That was up 14.54 percent from a year earlier.

The bank said the rise reflects growing public trust. It also supports BSI’s broader digital strategy.

The program creates income opportunities as well. BSI said agents earn around Rp6 million to Rp8 million per month, depending on transaction volume.

That makes the network more than a banking channel. It also supports local economic empowerment.

BSI Agen complements a wider service ecosystem. The bank operates 1,130 branches and around 6,000 ATMs and cash recycling machines.

It also supports 16,000 agent EDC machines, 21,000 merchant EDC points, and more than 563,000 QRIS merchants nationwide.

Analysts often see branchless banking as critical in Indonesia. Geography can make traditional banking access difficult.

Anton said BSI will continue expanding the network. The strategy aims to strengthen Islamic finance and widen equal access to banking.

Overall, the growth shows agent banking is becoming a key driver of inclusion. It is also helping support grassroots economic activity.
