Jakarta, ThedailyID — Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been named the PFA Players’ Player of the Year after an outstanding 2025/2026 season.
Fernandes becomes only the second Portuguese player to win the prestigious award, following Cristiano Ronaldo. He also becomes the first Manchester United player to claim the honour since Wayne Rooney in 2010.
The midfielder enjoyed a record-breaking Premier League campaign, registering 21 assists to set a new single-season record. His 21st assist came on the final matchday when he set up Patrick Dorgu against Brighton.
Fernandes previously won the Premier League Player of the Season and the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year awards, making the PFA honour another major individual achievement.
“Winning this award, voted for by players who play against me every week, is something that makes me very proud,” Fernandes said, according to Daily Mail, Wednesday (26/08).
He added that being recognised by players who have faced him directly made the award particularly meaningful.
Fernandes was also selected for the PFA Premier League Team of the Year, alongside Brentford forward Igor Thiago. Arsenal dominated the XI with five players, while Manchester City contributed four.
In other categories, Manchester City’s Nico O’Reilly won Men’s Young Player of the Year, while teammate Khadija “Bunny” Shaw claimed the PFA Women’s Players’ Player of the Year after finishing as the WSL’s top scorer with 21 goals.
