Jakarta, ThedailyID — Artificial intelligence is making its way into Indonesia’s fashion industry as local designers use Google Gemini to support creative work, research and international collaboration.
Google has launched “With Gemini, In Craft,” an initiative that highlights how AI can work alongside creative professionals without replacing traditional craftsmanship.
Indonesia ranks among the top five global markets for Gemini usage. The country’s fashion industry also remains an important part of the creative economy, accounting for nearly 60 percent of creative goods exports in early 2026.
Couture house KRATON, founded by Auguste Soesastro, uses Gemini to research international archives and translate historical records from different ancestral regions. The research helps the brand develop couture pieces with documented cultural references.
Contemporary label STELLARISSA, led by Stella Rissa, uses Gemini to expand hand-drawn character sketches into a wider creative universe. The work includes 3D collectibles and animated series while retaining the brand’s hand-painted aesthetic.
Streetwear brand TWO STITCHES has also integrated Gemini into its workflow. Co-founders Andy Tan and Jerome Kurnia use the technology to connect design teams across Jakarta, Bali and Berlin.
The brand can turn rough sketches into interactive virtual fittings. This process cuts sample development from months to days.
The initiative comes as Indonesian Gemini users increasingly work with multimodal prompts. Google says users generate nearly 9 million images through the platform each day.
“Technology is at its best when it empowers human imagination,” said Veronica Utami, Country Director of Google Indonesia.
She said Gemini can support research, transform original sketches into different formats and help local creators expand their businesses globally.
By combining AI with traditional techniques, Indonesian designers are exploring new ways to preserve cultural heritage while expanding their creative reach.
