Jakarta, ThedailyID — Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) has reaffirmed its commitment to refund customers affected by a fraud case involving Credit Union (CU) Paroki Aek Nabara in North Sumatra. On April 2026, authorities confirmed that the total financial loss in the case reached around Rp28 billion based on ongoing police investigations.
BNI stated that it will process refunds in line with legal findings. The bank emphasized that all steps will follow a transparent and accountable mechanism agreed upon by both parties.
Munadi Herlambang, a representative of BNI, said the bank understands the concerns faced by affected members. He added that the investigation results provide clarity on the losses, which will guide the refund process.
“BNI remains committed to resolving the refunds carefully, ensuring the process is legally sound and accountable,” he said. The bank also issued an apology to customers impacted by the incident.
Since the case surfaced in February 2026, BNI has taken early steps to address the issue. These include an initial refund to affected members as a sign of responsibility and good faith.
BNI clarified that the fraud did not involve its official banking products. Instead, the scheme was carried out by an individual acting outside the bank’s systems and procedures.
The bank also assured customers that funds stored in official BNI products remain secure. No disruption has been reported in its core banking operations.
Rian Eriana Kaslan, another BNI representative, highlighted the importance of financial literacy to prevent similar incidents. She urged the public to avoid offers promising unusually high returns or transactions conducted outside official channels.
“We encourage customers to verify all products through official platforms before making financial decisions,” she said. BNI provides verification through its website, mobile app, and customer service channels.
BNI stated it will continue to monitor the case until full resolution. The bank also plans to strengthen internal controls and expand public education efforts to reduce future risks.
