Jakarta, ThedailyID — Indonesia’s General Elections Commission (KPU) said its duties in the 2024 election process had ended before the Supreme Court issued a ruling on Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s school equivalency certificate.
KPU Commissioner Idham Holik said the final stage of the election process was the inauguration of the elected candidates.
“The final stage of the 2024 election was the inauguration or the taking of the oath or pledge by the elected candidate or candidate pair,” Idham said on Sunday, November 1.
He said the KPU had completed its responsibilities under the election law. According to Idham, the commission could not take responsibility for court rulings issued after the election process ended.
“The Election Law regulates it that way,” he said.
Idham also stressed that the KPU carried out its duties based on existing laws and regulations.
The Supreme Court recently granted an appeal filed by HM Subhan. The ruling declared Gibran’s senior high school equivalency certificate invalid and legally void.
The court also ordered authorities to retrieve and destroy the certificate. The ruling further required the defendant to cover court costs.
The decision has sparked public discussion about Gibran’s status as Indonesia’s vice president. However, the KPU maintained that the 2024 election process had formally concluded.
